New content @ trainphones.nyphonejacks.com

I posted a few new payphones and numbers @ trainphones.nyphonejacks.com  at the end of last week.

Another small office installation complete

This office consisted of 12 data runs, one fax jack, and 2 door phones. Each desk got 2 data jacks, one for PC and one for VoIP phones. While the VoIP phones generally have a pass thru jack, it is best to have a separate jack for PCs and VoIP - to physically isolate the networks in the event that they want to run the VoIP on DSL while running the PCs on a cable modem while not having a multi-WAN router, or in the event that they want to change one of the jacks for use with analog phones in the future.

Cable was pulled during construction phase, when walls were partially opened. Jacks are all on 1st floor of office, network closet is in basement.

Before wires cut down into 12 port panel.

Close up of 12 port panel before wires cut down.

1/2 way cut down (top half done, bottom half waiting to be cut down.
Close up 1/2 way cut down.

Panel cut down, and installed.
Rest of cabling terminated. 2 RC2A relays for door releases,
1 jack for fax line to connect to cable dial tone,
PAP2 to provide hot dialer for door phones,
double jack to connect lines from PAP2 to door phones and relays.
Close up of all hardware mounted.
All that is left is to get the router installed and connect up all of the patch cords, and to get a surge protector to connect all of the hardware.Power cords for the PAP2 and Viking RC2A's are installed, the power outlet is on the oppisite wall as the panel is, so you can not see the wires (which are neatly hidden above the closet door frame) or the electrical outlet.

EDIT - The customer had the router at the location today so I returned to mount the router and modem, and connect the 3 IP phones that I brought for the installation. The IT guy who is bringing in their PCs and server is going to have to bring in a switch if they plan on using all of the installed jacks.

Router and modem mounted.

Optimum online w/boost + Hostway

UPDATE: Satisfactorily resolved.

I recently registered the domain name nyphonejacks.net with Optimum online, which gives you a free domain registration and hosting when subscribed to Boost services.

I registered this domain about 3 days ago. I set it up to forward to nyphonejacks.com. Today I tried to access nyphonejacks.net with my browser, and it came up that the site did not exist, so I tried to ping nyphonejacks.net and did not get anything, no response what so ever.

I contacted the customer support for Hostway who claims that Optimum sent them a notice that the Boost was disconnected from my line, so they disabled my hosting account. I do not even really care about the hosting - I care about the domain, which even if the boost was to be canceled should still be within my control for the entire term of the domains registration which is one year.

Optimum online claims that they do not see any issues with my account, and that they did not cancel the Boost nor did they send notice to Hostway.

Currently I am awaiting a phone call back from Optimum as they are supposedly contacting Hostway right now to resolve this issue.

This is not a good first impression, and I truly hope that this is not what I am to look forward to with having my domain hosted with my ISP or their sub-contractors. I am hopeful that this is just a small bump in the road, because I am considering moving all of my paid services over to one company - anything to get away from Yahoo's over priced services - and lack of customer support, and respect for America.

I will provide further information about this situation as it develops.

EDIT- Wow, that was fast. The Optimum representative just got back to me, and the issue is resolved.

According to the Optimum rep my Boost was never removed from my account - something he claims would need a 30 day notice anyhow. What he told me that the Hostway people told him is that the Hostway database could not reach the Optimum database. I tend to agree with the Optimum representative that in this case the Hostway rep was passing the blame of the problem off to someone else. And he said that since the trouble was resolved so quickly that it was more than likely an issue on Hostway's end and not Optimum.

At least the rep was honest when I asked if this was a common occurrence and if this is what I should expect going  forward. He told me that it should not have happened this time, but he could not guarantee that I would not have troubles in the future, but hopefully everything should remain fine now.

Installation of Linksys E1000 router and SPA 8000 VoIP ATA

Installation of Linksys E1000 router and SPA 8000 VoIP ATA

E1000, SPA8000, surge protector and wiring mounted next to NIDs and DSL modem.

Close up of E1000 and SPA8000.

Entire telecom network, New hardware on far right, new 66 block far left.

New 66 block feed from SPA8000.
Terminated to station wiring with bridging clips.
This was a small installation of an SPA8000 to deliver 8 analog lines via SIP trunking to 8 dedicated telephones. Existing wiring was used and extended going to stations, and was cross connected from terminations on existing 66 blocks to new 66 block that was being fed from the SPA8000 via a 25 pair amphenol cable.

The modem was set into bridge mode and router was set for remote administration.

Some fun phone stuff

Blackberry can not play media while alert is active

I have on several occasions gotten an error message on my blackberry stating "can not play media while alert is active". I have gone thru the full menu screen checking that there are no email, text, bbm, twitter, google voice or other alerts. Generally I never find any active alerts, and I am not about to reset the phone to fix this problem. I have found a quick trick to get rid of this problem. What is the main function of a cell phone? To make phone calls - so making a phone call should take priority over everything else, and apparently it does. Even if you do not have a signal just attempting to place a call should allow you to playback your media without having to do a reset.
Sent from my BlackBerry® by Boost Mobile

Update: Aug. 27, 2011
Apparently this does not resolve all "can not play media while alert is active" problems. While most of the time that I get this error message the above has worked to clear that message and allow me to play media with out a battery pull, I have since posting this had several occasions where this information does not clear this message. However I still would recommend giving the above a try since it takes less time than pulling your battery and waiting for the BB to reboot.

Yahoo Answers HATES AMERICA!

Happy 4th of July everyone. I just wanted to make everyone aware of what I found in my inbox from Y!A today.

Question: looking for reliable "phone call divert" services from USA to India?
Deleted Answer: stop outsourcing our american jobs to india and you wont have this problem....
Violation Reason: Insulting or Ranting Content
In Yahoo! Answers you may not demean or insult others, or post tirades directed towards persons or groups.

Yahoo choose the 4th of July to send me a violation notice for this answer that I provided. The question and answer is fuzzy in my mind, so it has to have been answered by myself at least a few months ago, if not longer.
I do not see how my answer violated the guidelines that they are claiming that I violated by responding to this question. I did not demean or insult anyone, not have I posted a tirade towards any people or groups. I merely stated the obvious fact. If this person was not in the business of stealing jobs from American citizens then they would not have the problem of trying to divert calls from the US to India.
I provided the most acceptable solution to the persons question. Keeping American jobs in America. To me, it is further insulting of the date that they choose to send me this notice of violation.
While I am at it, I transferred freecnam.com last week to the TnID people. For some reason, just because you transfer a domain it does not cancel your Y! domain account, so after I verified with a whois look up, I logged into my Y! domains account and canceled my plan for freecnam.com, which was set to expire towards the middle of the month. I was sent an email that I would be charged for this account on the 7th. Guess what? They billed me yesterday for the account AFTER it had been canceled. I had to call and speak with someone, guess where? In India to complain that they took money for a domain I relinquished control over to a third party, and that I had canceled my plan for that domain name, and that even if I had chosen to keep the domain name that the payment was not supposed to be charged for at least a week from now. He came back with every month has a different amount of days in it, and that it is not on the same day every year that the payment is due. Then why did they send me an email telling me when the payment was going to be processed if they were not going to honor that timeline? Besides - who bills someone on a SUNDAY?
Looks like my other domain(s) will likely need to find another registrar well before they expire. Having my domain email land in my Y! mail inbox is not worth $35/year when I can get the domain  for 1/3 of that cost, and I could use gmail to get my domain emails.

[UPDATE 7/5/11]
They responded back to my appeal of this question being removed. First my appeal:
1.  What is your name and Yahoo! ID?
------------------------------------
      Name:

      Yahoo! ID: nyphonejacks

2.  What is your email address?
-------------------------------
      Email Address: nyphonejacks@yahoo.com

3.  What are you appealing?
---------------------------
      Subject: Answer Deletion

4.  Enter additional information here:
--------------------------------------
Yahoo must REALLY HATE the United States of America to delete this
answer on the 4th of July of all days.

I should have realized that when I spoke with, someone in India about
charging me for a Y!  domain name that I transferred to someone else and
canceled in my domain control panel earlier today.

The question asked how they could divert calls from the US to a call
center in India, thus taking money from American citizens pockets. As a
Telecommunications Specialist, I advised the person who asked the
question the best solution to his trouble. If he stopped outsourcing
employment from American workers to India then he would not have this
trouble.

The answer is in no way a rant, nor is it insulting. What is insulting
is the loss of American's jobs due to outsourcing to countries such
as India. What is even more so insulting is that Y! felt the need to
violate this answer on the 4th of July.
And now the first response for my appeal:

And  my response to that:

Nowhere in the terms of use for yahoo do I see having pride and being patriotic a violation - perhaps I should have read between the lines when every yahoo article about automobiles is constantly giving negative reviews against american branded vehicles.

I demand that my answer be reviewed by a manager residing in the United States.

This is disgusting to me, especially coming on independence day. Normally I have turned to yahoo for all of my internet needs including paid services, but your disrespect towards the USA has made me realize that I should take my business elsewhere and advise other patriotic Americans to do the same
Awaiting further response. Will keep you updated. In the mean time I suggest that you seek elsewhere for your paid internet services.

ARG group violates the do not call list 83 times so far, with just my google voice number alone!

[EDIT 7/6/11 - 3 more calls just came in bringing the total to 86 calls, second complaint filed with donotcall.gov]
[EDIT 7/9/11 total is now at 90 calls]

I just went thru all of the spam calls on my Google Voice account - which is registered for the do not call list. There were 85 calls in the spam folder. 78 (SEVENTY EIGHT) 83 (EIGHTY THREE) calls in total  of them from the same company, from a period of time from April up to July 2, 2011. Screen shots of my Google Voice account spam folder as follows (the only thing edited was I blacked out my number, and the number of another spam caller.

The company name is ARG group, and it appears that they are an energy reseller company. I NEVER had a business relationship with this company, nor have I ever inquired about their products or services.

I have filed a complaint with the do not call registry. This post is to supplement the limited space that I have available to provide information in my complaint, and to provide solid evidence to back up my claim.
